* Headshots by Mindy Tucker…who is very dope.
Thaddeus McCants (he/him) is a Brooklyn-based Writer, Director, and generally fun dude to hang out with from Madison, Wisconsin. He tries to use his best Midwestern attributes —levity & love — to get people to care about the things he does…whether that’s pressing social issues, awe-inspiring humans, or stellar brands.
As a Television Writer, he was most recently a Staff Writer on HBOMax's delicious bio-comedy ‘JULIA’. He is currently developing his own series, ‘LIT LOUNGE’, with BET+ about the Legal Cannabis Industry. He won ‘Funniest Undiscovered Black TV Writer in America’ a few years back (which sounds backhanded, I know, but he was promised it was a compliment.) He is also the co-writer of multiple AUDIBLE Originals with both Best Selling Author James Patterson and VICE Media.
As a Screenwriter and Director, he was most recently a NYSF Fellow with FilmNation & the WGAE. His Short Films have been screened and awarded at festivals across the country…seriously, like in NY, LA, Buffalo, Portland, St. Louis, and more…it’s a little tiring.
As a Playwright, he’s been a New York Theatre Workshop 2050 Fellow and a Finalist for both the Public's Emerging Writers Group & National Black Theatre's 'I Am Soul' Residency. He's also been awarded and acknowledged as a Theater Masters Visionary Playwright, a KCACTF Regional Winner & National Finalist, and a Semi-Finalist for both the Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights Conference & American Blues Theatre Blue Ink Award.
Thaddeus is also an up-and-coming Commercial Director repped by O Positive Films, where his commercial work has appeared on small screens of all kinds. There, he uses that same (undiscovered?) comedic eye to breathe life into spots for brands like Bud Light, Progressive, Chime, Uber Eats, State Farm, and more…even a Super Bowl commercial for Avocados from Mexico.
He proudly holds his MFA from NYU & BFA from Ithaca College. Which is a lot of FA’s…here's hoping that was worth it.
“The writer cannot be a mere storyteller; they cannot be a mere teacher; they cannot merely X-ray society's weaknesses, its ills, its perils. They must be actively involved in shaping its present and its future” – Ken Saro Wiwa
